If the water heater is stored in a cold climate, it must be properly drained to avoid damage to the heat exchanger or water valves. To drain the device, turn the drain stern counterclockwise and disconnect all incoming and outgoing water lines. When not in use, fully disconnect gas and water lines and store in a warm dry place.
